The team at Sussex Promotions prides itself on being carbon conscious and we are working towards reducing and offsetting carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions in our operations. During an environmental audit we completed a carbon calculation trying to establish the level of CO2e emissions we produced as a company. This calculation estimated an annual output of 30 tonnes of CO2e per annum. To put this in perspective using data from 2004, Defra estimates that the total (both direct and indirect) carbon footprint of the UK is 659M tonnes CO2e. To put our carbon footprint in context, our operation represent approximately 0.0000046% of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions, but as a team we want to do our part. After carrying out our own research we have estimated that 5 trees can help offset 1 tonne of CO2e , in light of this we are supporting the Trees for Life Campaign, which we see as a positive step in helping to lower our environmental impact from the CO2e emissions from our business operations. As a company we have committed to plant 150 trees per annum to help minimise the impact of our direct CO2e emissions. Further, we have committed to planting 1 tree for every £10,000 sales revenue in our grove, estimated to help lower the impact of the emissions generated through the manufacture, printing and delivering of the products we supply. Why Trees for Life? Trees for Life is the award winning conservation charity dedicated to the regeneration and restoration of the Caledonian Forest in the Highlands of Scotland. By supporting forest restoration we are helping to absorb some of the excess CO2 in the atmosphere, as well as providing habitat for a wide range of very special wildlife and giving it a better chance of adapting to climate change. Trees for Life is working to restore the Caledonian forest for the long term (250 years of more), as a fully functioning healthy ecosystem, complete with its constituent species. In addition, because of the long-term vision and time frame for their project and the remote locations where the charity works, the trees planted will grow indefinitely and will never be cut down. Trees for Life provide an opportunity to ensure the survival of this ancient and remarkable woodland. Only 1% of the original forest remains.
